Located on the beautiful sunny beaches of Whisky Point, Urani close to Arugam Bay, Paper Moon Kudils opens its doors to reveal the simplistic comfort of traditional living spaces, where you experience a way of life…

Paper Moon Kudils, an initiative of Whisky Point Resorts, was first formulated by Perumal Partheepan – Partner and Executive Director of the company. A resident of Urani himself, he envisaged an enterprise where employment and opportunity would be provided to the people of the area as this village and many others in the surroundings were severely affected by the conflict. As a result masonry, carpentry and finishing were done by the skilled workers of the area and the material too were sourced from the surroundings. All the staff working at Paper Moon Kudils are from Urani and Pottuvil as well.

The 20 Kudils (the Tamil term for traditional living spaces) are spread across two land areas joined by a pathway. This is a unique property with panoramic views of the ocean. There is a sense of openness and freedom. The entire setup is done to exude a laidback and relaxing ambience. Each Kudil can accommodate up to three people, where the space is large with a verandah and attached bathroom.

Kusini (Tamil for kitchen) Restaurant serves the tastiest meals with interesting twists to some of well known Sri Lankan food. The meals are made with the freshest produce, seafood and meat from the area. The Urani Burger, Urani Dinner, Urani Healthy Special Breakfast and the flavoursome seafood platter will leave guests craving for more. The kitchen is open to the restaurant and is the only one of its kind in the entire area. It is state-of-the-art and fully equipped.

The one of a kind chill-out lounge—Kadal (Tamil for sea)—is the best place to laze away the afternoon or enjoy a cooling breeze while reading a book or just napping. The beautiful Water Hole, which is the swimming pool of Paper Moon Kudils is the first in the area. The Water Hole is the best place to dip in and cool oneself after a day out at the beach or surfing.

The high-tech sound system at the Kusini Restaurant plays chill-out music and whether you are in the pool or at Kadal, you can enjoy your hours. All the furniture at Paper Moon Kudils is wooden and has been sourced from Moratuwa directly from the manufacturers. The aim was to use Sri Lankan products in every possible way.

Paper Moon Kudils opened its doors on May 24, 2015 in unique style where little children from the Lakshmi Sana Samuha Nilayam together with the children of the staff and surrounding area were treated to a party. There were 54 children in total. The ceremonial opening was symbolised by the cutting of five cakes by the children and singing Happy Birthday to Paper Moon Kudils. The colourful spread on the table was a novel experience for the children and adults as well. Gifts were presented to the children by the staff of Paper Moon Kudils and guests, and then each person took the children to see the pool before taking a group photograph, which signified the end of the children’s party. The festivities continued into the night with dance performances and good music. The highlight of the night was the 22.5 kg fish that was barbecued and served with seafood platters to all those present.
