Joachim Rex is a German artist, whose love for Sri Lanka has inspired him to capture his experiences, the sights, sounds and sensations of the country upon a canvas amidst vivid brush strokes of soothing colours. His book “Impressionen aus Sri Lanka” (Impressions of Sri Lanka) is a compilation of his paintings that has sprung forth from his avid admiration for Sri Lanka, which also prompted him to build himself a studio in the southwest of the island to which he returns every year from January to April in order to paint and indulge in the many artistic delights that this exotic island has got to offer.
Joachim anoints his canvases with life and vivacity to capture the spirit of his surroundings, with subtle paint strokes and details
As an ardent lover of the great outdoors, Joachim invokes the muses from the ever so benevolent mother nature, thus capturing the essence of Sri Lanka in his green tinged landscape paintings of lotus ponds, rubber estates and sprawling fields of paddy. Cradled in his foliage-caressed studio, Joachim anoints his canvases with life and vivacity to capture the spirit of his surroundings, with subtle paint strokes and details that he bestows upon his paintings.
Joachim is a well travelled artist who has painted rambling landscapes from all around the globe in countries like Italy, Spain, southern France and even in the Martinique and yet, his fervent adulation for the warmth that this island has on offer has prompted him to return over and over again to bring to life the splendour of this island haven. Although his paintings are collected by many an enthusiastic collector worldwide, it really does seem that he has indeed lost his heart amongst the greenery of Sri Lanka.
