Mueen Saheed presented “Soul Beat” his maiden art exhibition in Sri Lanka. The chief guest at the event was His Excellency Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner of Malaysia in Sri Lanka. And the guests of honour included well known personalities such as Gerard Ondaatjie, Justice Saleem Marsoof, Nimal Cook, Chandragupta Thenuwara and Jagath Ravindra.
In the exhibition, Mueen showcased a series of artwork that focused on figurative and detailed paintings with a mixture of colours and symbolic images. His main piece in the collection which is named ‘Soul Beat’ was also unveiled on the opening night.
There were over 100 bright-hued canvases as well as black and whites showcased in the collection, all of which were completed in Sri Lanka within the last three years by the artist.
“This is a very special event, in my journey as an artist. I have been planning this exhibition for a few years and what you see today reflects an abstract medium of art which is non verbal and expresses feelings, laughter, fragrance, beauty, deep contemplation, moods, thoughts, heartbeats and my inner soul,” said Mueen.
“I have always loved art but never knew where and how to begin as an artist. It was the advice given to me by two expert artists that motivated me to start experimenting and for the past six years painting has made a significant impact in my life,” he added.
This was Mueen’s first exhibition in Sri Lanka but he has already showcased his work in Malaysia. In 2008 he was selected to participate in the Geo Park Art Exhibition which was held in Langkawi by the Malaysian Art Gallery and in 2009 he was part of the Expo Art exhibition held in Malaysia.
Mueen Saheed is well known as a jewellery designer both locally and internationally. He is an ardent traveler and has toured in most parts of the world, and he exhibits at art galleries in both Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
