For the second consecutive year, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo was presented with an ‘A+’ award at the City Food Safety High Achiever Awards Ceremony organised by the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council. The award was presented by A J M Muzammil, Mayor of Colombo. The awards ceremony was held with the patronage of Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development.
The criteria for awarding the grading is based on the management’s commitment, continuous improvement of process development, infrastructure and working environment, cleanliness, food preparation, storage and display, personal hygiene and use of clean water and raw materials amongst others. The Sri Lanka Institute of Food Safety trained 50 food handlers of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, on food safety aspects. After the successful completion of the final exam and the programme, all 50 food handlers were awarded with certificates and certified food handler ID cards.
The topics covered were food borne diseases and prevention, food poisoning and prevention, personal hygiene and food legislation and pest control. The boards of facilitators included Dr Ruwan Wijemuni, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health – Colombo City, Keerthi Marasinghe, Director – Institute of Food Safety, S M Kathri Arachchi Chief Food and Drugs Inspector – City of Colombo and Dr W G Karunathilake, Chief Public Health Inspector – City of Colombo. Dr Pradeep Kariyawasam, Chief Medical Officer of Health – City of Colombo, headed the awards ceremony.
