Scrap metal and brass sheets are cleverly shaped into striking shapes through which the viewer can discover the silhouettes of birds and elephants.
Artist Prageeth Manohansa infuses his studies of wildlife with movement and contrast in this series of work. The exhibition delves in the synergies and forms of herds and flocks, referred to as ‘Ranchuwa’ in Sinhala. The artist is well known for his assemblage of mixed media works, which is evident in the series. Prageeth Manohansa transforms scrap metal and brass sheets to represent the movement of flocks of birds and the solidity in the unison of herds. The artist’s affinity to nature and wildlife and his ability to create art from mundane static material and objects are reflected in the minimal manipulation he has used to create the works.

Charcoal and acrylic are used fluidly to continue the style in the preliminary sketches of the artist’s early sculptural and assemblage works. The drawings possess the patina of imperfection achieved by roughly folded packing paper, which has become an inherent part of the language of the artists.
