As guests descend the staircase leading to the extensive garden of the Bungalow, they are greeted with the majestic sight of the Seven Virgin Hills dominating the sky while the Laxapana waterfall appears as a thin ribbon amongst the lush greenery. Despite the distance, the roar of the cascade can be heard easily, heightening the experience.
“It was designed as a plantation bungalow,” said Natasha Amaratunge, proprietor, Norton Grange Bungalow. The two-story vacation home is constructed against the slope of a hill, with only the first floor visible from the garden. The guests enter through the doors of the Bungalow to a long corridor, which opens into the living/dining area. The spacious home comprises four bedrooms – two master bedrooms and two double rooms– with en suite bathrooms, a TV room, and two living rooms.
The bedrooms offer stunning views of the famous mountain range and waterfall. The two rooms on the first-floor offer balconies where guests can relax and enjoy the scenery, while on the ground floor; guests can walk out into the verandas attached to their bedrooms. The two master bedrooms also include walk-in closets, which leads to the en suites.
The cozy TV room on the first floor is an area where guests can unwind. Six recliner chairs offer comfort for guests who wish to view one of the latest movies or their favorite television show. An in-house chef prepares the meals for the vacationers from a variety of cuisines from Sri Lankan to Western.
“We provide wholesome meals, and guests can go sightseeing; there are many other waterfalls including Aberdeen, Mohini Falls and Murray Falls in the area and the Castlereigh Reservoir and the Maussakelle Dam, where they can ride canoes. The guests can also climb the Adam’s Peak or hike the Seven Virgin HIlls,” said Natasha Amaratunge.
Situated in Kiriwan Eliya and reached by the Norton – Maskeliya Road, Norton Grange is an ideal gateway for many excursions including visiting the Laxapana waterfall or dipping into the cold waters of the Maskeli Oya. The Bungalow provides a guide with whom the guests can embark on an adventure. They can also visit the nearby Warleigh Christ Church, Darawala Cricket and Rugby Club, and Peak Wilderness Sanctuary surrounded by flora and fauna.
Norton Grange Bungalow is an ideal vacation home to create a memorable experience in the Hill Country of the island.
