Artist Sanjeewa Liyanage. Paradise Road Galleries showcases ‘The Sound of Silence’, a compelling exhibition by artist Sanjeewa Liyanage. His latest body of work explores the weighty, unspoken narratives that reside within the human psyche.
Silence is often mistaken for emptiness, but in this collection, it is presented as a resonant presence.
The exhibition creates a bridge between the physical act of suppression—represented by sculptures of hands sealing mouths—and the resulting internal explosion of emotion depicted in the paintings. It challenges the viewer to look past the “quiet” exterior of the human form and perceive the vivid, often chaotic, “sound” of the soul.
“To me, silence is never empty; it is a reservoir of everything we are forbidden to say. My work captures the tension between the visible body and the invisible struggle. Through my sculptures, I examine the physical weight of holding back, the literal stifling of the self. In contrast, my paintings use aggressive lines and bleeding colors to give a face to the internal scream. These figures, crouched and contained, represent the sanctuary and the prison we create within ourselves. This collection is an invitation to listen to the echoes of what remains unsaid,” Sanjeewa Liyanage.
