Designed in collaboration with Ichendorf Milano, Foster + Partners Industrial Design has launched VIO and FIO. These two handcrafted and colorful glassware collections explore the purity of form and the art of seasonal display. VIO is a range of wine and water glasses, and FIO is a collection of vases. Crafted using traditional techniques, the two collections explore materiality, ergonomics, and craftsmanship.
Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design at Foster + Partners, reflects: “The idea behind the design was to create glassware that balances precision, elegance, and everyday usability. VIO refines geometric purity, while FIO celebrates seasonal flower arrangements with an eclectic approach.”
VIO is a glassware collection defined by precise geometry and a controlled shape. Each piece is handcrafted using a lampwork modelling technique from a single piece of borosilicate glass. The collection features short and tall glasses and carafes available in various colors such as blue, smoke, pink, and clear colored in paste glass. The wine glasses remain clear, celebrating the drink’s colour and feature different shapes for white, red, and sparkling varieties.
FIO is a collection of capsule-shaped vases designed to celebrate the art of seasonal flower arranging. Available in three sizes—small, medium, and large—the vases feature interchangeable lids, allowing for diverse floral arrangements.
A contrasting aluminium ‘frog’ can be placed inside the vase for more precise single-stem displays. The design of the vases allows for different compositions based on personal taste and spatial requirements. Rooted in seasonality and the availability of flowers, the design encourages users to adapt their arrangements throughout the year.
