Food takes the spotlight in this family-friendly, quiet and comfortable restaurant in the suburbs of Colombo, where music, lighting and art create the ambience for a family get-together.
Words Jennifer Paldano Goonewardane
Sinhara Family Restaurant has combined many elements within its compact space to set the stage for an atmosphere that is inviting. The paintings on the wall are a point of interest, not too overpowering, but enhances the interior and lend an air of sophistication.
Small tables in-between large tables are spaced enough to provide freedom for patrons to make conversation while affording mobility. The large dining room windows drench the interior with a more open feel, and the brightness inside matches the outside light to keep its atmosphere relaxed and natural. A pool table at the end of the long dining hall adds a playful distraction for families to engage in while waiting for the food to be served. On the whole, the ambience is modern, yet laid back to create a feel of homely ease in a dining space away from home.
The Sinhara Family Restaurant is located in close proximity to busy Galle Road, but shielded from the outside noise. The restaurant is a quiet oasis of relaxation and privacy, enlivened by the sound of conversations, the clinking of glasses and cutlery with background music to enhance the culinary experience.
An inviting portfolio of mouth-watering choices, from Sri Lankan to international dishes, snacks, soups, salads and seafood platters, the choice enhanced with many twists. Each has been meticulously selected to cater to different ages, tastes, meat lovers and vegetarians.
The ‡ la carte menu literally allows you to choose the dish that you are in the mood for. The highlight is the platter of great choices that will be a feast to the mind. Guests can experience the delights of the Western menu, fish and chips being the signature dish sought by young diners. While the ëstapleí Chinese fried rice and the accompanying dishes continue to remain a star attraction among families, there are quite a few names that grab oneís attention, such as the Motherís Style Chicken Stew, reminiscent of a traditional broth. Bite Rice, a combination of chicken, sausages and omelette is very Asian in nature with its accompanying chefís special gravy. The Chefís Special Chicken Salad comes recommended for its content, a lavish mix of meat, eggs, bacon, black olives, cashew, avocado, pineapple, assortment of vegetables and croutons, a veritable meal, pretty and flavourful packed with wholesomeness.
Enriching diner experience, the restaurant is gradually expanding its options
Enriching diner experience, the restaurant is gradually expanding its options, making strides into Japanese, Thai and Singaporean cuisine, one dish at a time, carefully selected and painstakingly prepared and presented. Panko Breaded Chicken Cutlet, is a schnitzel from Japan oozing with seasoning, a juicy and tender meal dressed with a salad.
Along with the dine-in and take away options, the restaurant offers an executive lunch, very Sri Lankan in preparation and taste for those who desire a large portion of goodness at an affordable price. Accommodating the needs of every patron that walks through its door, Sinhara is dedicated to make that experience warm and memorable.
