Colombo Courtyard was voted “Best Hotel interior” at the recently concluded International Hotel Awards. The achievement came from a regional selection, which encompassed hotels from 19 countries in the Asia Pacific.
Sunela Jayawardene, the designer of the 32-room boutique hotel shared that she overcame many challenges in designing the property, given cramped space and having to incorporate multiple buildings, which were constructed at varying times into her design. Commenting about the edge that the Colombo Courtyard had over its competition, Jayawardene pointed out that the use of recycled materials throughout the Hotel lent a much needed advantage at a time when the whole world is concerned about conserving the environment.
The award entitles Colombo Courtyard to participate in the judgement for the same category among the best in all regions of the world, which will happen in November in London.
