An exhibition of paintings by veteran artist S H Sarath was held at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery. The exhibition was held under the patronage of Nandimithra Ekanayake, Minister of Education, Professor Edwin Ariyadasa and many other distinguished invitees. Speaking at the occasion Professor Edwin Ariyadasa gave his views on the exhibition and commented on the artist’s unique talents. He observed that S H Sarath is an artist who is not ruled by tradition but worked according to his heart. As an example of Sarath’s willingness to innovate and try new ideas he recalled a previous exhibition where instead of a formal opening, the artist had arranged for oil lamps to be lit by the participants. “He has a way of thinking that is not traditional,” Professor Ariyadasa said.
