For the second consecutive year, Altair sponsored an event which presented the best of Sri Lanka’s amateur and professional golfing talent. With over a 100 golfers competing in stroke play format for the title of the Country’s Champion Golfer; the occasion, held over four days, professionally kept with standards of world golf.
Avancka Herath, Captain, Royal Colombo Golf Club stated, “This is the only open golf tournament played in Sri Lanka besides the Sri Lankan Open, and we greatly appreciate the generous support of Altair, which led to its revival and continuance”.
The RCGC Open Golf tournament was inaugurated in 1970 and was open to all golfers professional as well as amateur. The tournament therefore paves the way for greater recognition of the sport of golf within the general pubic of Sri Lanka. It creates a better reach for the public and enables all golfers including children to be given the opportunity to take part and showcase their talents on the field.
“We are particularly happy to support this tournament, because it extends an opportunity to a wider segment of players to compete, contributing to the development of the sport. It is open to the best players regardless of their club affiliations and membership”, commented Pradeep Moraes, Director, Altair.
Altair is a one of its kind development in south Asia in terms of architectural design, structural engineering and living experience. “Altair caters to those who seek the finest things in life, and the sport of golf is one of them. We value traditions and relationships and Altair is therefore the perfect guarantor for a tournament of this nature”, Pradeep Moraes added. Watching the tournament grow in strength from year to year, both the RCGC and Altair envision the best prospects for the future of the tournament.
