Chef Kapila Jayasooriya and Chef Asela Hettiarachchi of Mount Lavinia Hotel represented Sri Lanka at the SILAL Middle Eastern Food Exhibition, organised by the Emirates Culinary Guild. The two who competed in the fields of ice carving, vegetable and fruit carving were the only Sri Lankans to participate in the exhibition.
Being his first instance of exposure to an international culinary competition, Chef Asela Hettiarachchi participated in three events, namely; individualised carving, team ice carving and fruit and vegetable carving and won Bronze Medals for each of these three categories. Chef Kapila Jayasooriya stood out by achieving a merit award for Friandises Petites Four Parlines Nougatines and a Bronze medal for the four plates of dessert he prepared.
