Nine Artists, One Shared Dimension, Infinite Perspectives

The second edition of ArtnArtist brings together nine Sri Lankan artists whose diverse practices explore memory, nature, cultural identity, social realities, imagination, and humanity’s relationship with the world around us.
A defining feature of this edition is its shared 1 × 1-foot format, providing a common framework for the participating artists. While each work follows the same dimensions, every artist retains a distinctive artistic language, medium, and perspective.
Painting, printmaking, ceramics, metalwork, and sculpture converge within the exhibition, creating a dialogue between varied approaches to contemporary art. Presenting these diverse practices within a consistent format draws attention to the individuality of each artist while revealing the creative possibilities that emerge through their collective presence.
Audiences are invited to observe how each artist responds to the same physical parameters, transforming a uniform space through ideas shaped by individual experiences, creative processes, and artistic expression. The edition features works by Chammika Jayawardena, Chandani Bandara, Dillai Joseph, Eade Kunst, Ishara Madushanka, Isuru Nirangana, Lahiru Lakshan, Prabath Samarasooriya, and Sachira Lakshan. ArtnArtist is conceived as a long-term platform for supporting and presenting contemporary artistic practices centred on material exploration, conceptual reflection, and experimentation.

Rather than functioning as a conventional artist collective or a single exhibition project, it operates as an evolving exhibition series. Central to its approach is the understanding that artistic practice is not static, but continually develops through process, dialogue, experimentation, and sustained engagement.

The exhibition is curated by Mandira Ranathunga, with Gayan Hemarathne serving as Program Manager. Through its second edition, ArtnArtist continues to provide a space where contemporary Sri Lankan artists can experiment, engage in dialogue, and express individual perspectives within a shared framework. In doing so, the platform encourages audiences to encounter different artistic languages side by side while contributing to an evolving conversation around contemporary artistic practice in Sri Lanka.
