Elephant Corridor Hotel launched its inaugural Youth Training Programme at the hotel premises in Sigiriya.
The programme is an initiative started by the hotel to provide career opportunities for the youth in Sigiriya and surrounding areas in the hospitality industry.
The training programme, to be conducted biannually, is targeted at school-leavers and will see the recruitment of 15–20 youth for each session. They will be trained in four different disciplines—housekeeping, front desk service, food and beverages, and the kitchen.
The trainees will also be taught English to improve their communication skills. During the six month training period, all trainees will receive food and accommodation, as well as an allowance. At the conclusion of the training programme, all trainees will receive a certificate and the trainees who excel during the training will be granted job opportunities at the hotel.
“This training programme will be a career opening for the future of many young people,” said Thakshila Galappaththy, Head of Business Development – Elephant Corridor Hotel. “The trainees who start from the bottom can work their way all the way up to the pinnacle of the hotel industry.”
