National mobile service provider, Mobitel hosted the year’s biggest tech event, Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2018. This was one of the most awaited events of the year for the tech community to come together and see what the tech giant, Google has on offer in the forthcoming year. The highlight of the evening was the keynote session by Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google on latest products and platform innovations at Google. This was followed by a wide array of highly technical and in-depth sessions focused on web building, mobile applications, enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies such as Andriod, Chrome, Chrome OS, Google APIs, Google Web Toolkit and App Engine. Discussions were also carried out on new products and upgrades to existing products. The event included special sessions, aired live from the main event held in Mountain View, California.
In 2013, Mobitel introduced Google I/O Extended to Sri Lanka targeting the local tech community and has kept the enthusiasm rising high ever since. Over the years the event has been an enormous success that has caused a sensation among developers, ICT professionals, industry leaders, undergraduates and young tech-savvy innovators. This year Mobitel partnered with Radical Ledger in order to offer a first-hand experience of blockchain technology for all the participants. The registration process for Google I/O Extended 2018 was executed featuring a blockchain based approach. This process demonstrated how blockchain technology can be used to build real world applications in a distributed fashion while maintaining security and transparency.
