The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club has made arrangements to hold its annual event – the Pride of Ownership Drive – on April 7, 2013.
This annual event of the Club has carried on unbroken for the past fourteen years and this year’s drive has been planned to the historic Ayrs Castle, perched high on a cleared hillside and designed along the lines of a Scottish castle, located one hour away from Colombo.
The imposing presence of Ayrs Castle and the labour of love which resulted in its creation, is a fitting backdrop to the ‘Diminutive Bug’ that has provided a ‘Labour of Love’ to its many owners.
This is a significant year for the Club, as it celebrates the Diamond Jubilee of the Beetle that was introduced to Ceylon in 1953. The VW Beetle Owners’ Club will organise many events in keeping with this anniversary and the ‘Pride of Ownership’ Drive will be the first of the many events planned throughout the year.
The Club invites the owners of VW Beetles, both new and old, to join this unique event whilst celebrating a sixty year heritage of ‘Bugs in Lanka’.
