The National Crafts Council under the Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Ministry staged this year’s ‘Shilpa 2013’, National Crafts Festival. The festival was declared open by Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development.
Parallel to Shilpa National Exhibition and Trade fair, various other features, such as ‘Wisithuru’ – new designs exhibition, ‘Ranma’ – exhibition focusing on tourism handicrafts, ‘Ugayata Nimaum’ – new design launch by National Design Centre, independent designers exhibition, Palmyrah and Kithul Exhibition and the Art Competition for the school children underscored the significance of this year’s festival.
In addition to the performances by the national dancing and music groups, performances by the school children and musical show by the Tower Hall artistes featuring the Kapirinna group from Puttalam added colour to the festival.
