Bocuse d’Or Asia, the Asian Final of the Bocuse d’Or global contest was held in Shanghai with the intention of selecting participants for the 15th Bocuse d’Or Global Finals in Lyon, France 2013 at which Chef Buddhika Samarasekera and his apprentice Rashen John achieved the bronze medal, securing themselves a place among the top contenders in the Bocuse d’Or Finals 2013. This was announced at a press conference headed by Thirukumar Nadesan, Chairman – Hotel Developers Lanka, Dilhan Fernando, Director Marketing – Dilmah Tea, Dr Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman – Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Rudolf Troestler, General Manager – Hilton Colombo, Alan Palmer, Official Coach – Bocuse d’Or Sri Lanka and other distinguished guests.
“What happened in shanghai is that Sri Lanka made its culinary debut on the world stage. And that really is saying a lot because there is phenomenal talent in this country. But this achievement will go far beyond the national level because it is the watershed in terms of Sri Lanka’s culinary future and that has tremendous impact on tourism and so many other aspects,” said Dilhan Fernando, Director Marketing – Dilmah Tea, emphasising upon the importance of this achievement.
