The Chefs Guild of Lanka (CGL) is proud to send the first national culinary team to participate in the World Culinary Olympics which is scheduled to be held in Germany in October 2012. The seven member team will be lead by Chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe (Heritance Ahungalla), the only chef in the world who have won five gold medals at the Culinary Olympics, Germany and 4 world cups at Culinary World Cup, UK, followed by Chef Ushantha Shrimal Kulatunga (Jetwing Light House), Chef Manjula Wickrama (Cinnamon Grand), Chef Chamaka Nadeeshan Perera (Hilton, Colombo), Chef Kasun Premachandra (Heritance Ahungalla) and Chef Sanjeewa Niroshan (Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya).
Since 1900, the biggest and most traditional culinary exhibition in the world, The International Exhibition of Culinary Art takes place every four years. This professional competition will be entered by more than 50 nations from all over the world, which will compete for the Olympic victory, from 5th until 10th of October in Frankfurt Germany.Team Manager, veteran Chef Gerard Mendis (Chairman Chefs Guild of Lanka) who won the first gold medal in 1998 at the Culinary Olympics and honourary member of many world chefs associations, is supporting the team with their training for the last one year.
Despite many years of planning finally the dream has come true to send a team to participate at the World Culinary Olympics. Apart from the team seven individuals will also take part in the competition.
