The Resurrection.
Paradise Road Galleries presents ‘The Confession’ by artist Chathuranga Gamage.
In The Confession, the artist reflects on the disappearance of the natural landscape and its deeper implications for personal identity, memory, and belonging. Growing up in the city, where nature was increasingly replaced by concrete, the artist began to explore a changing landscape that extended beyond the physical environment to encompass the psychological and political forces shaping contemporary life. Having left the city in search of rural spaces, the artist came to recognize that the city remained present through memory, absence, and longing. Returning to an urban environment increasingly shaped by digital systems, this sense of displacement takes on a new dimension.

Confined to a room and surrounded by screens, the artist confronts a society in which platforms and algorithms increasingly influence how we work, think, and exist, consuming not only our time and attention but also our sense of self.

The exhibition becomes a personal confession of belonging to the very system the artist once sought to escape. Moving between the physical, psychological, political, and digital landscapes, the work considers the shifting boundaries between freedom and dependence, presence and absence, and the self and the systems that shape it. At its core is an unresolved search to understand what has been lost and what remains of the self.
