Chaminda Gamage, a founder member of Colombo Artists, is currently showcasing an array of paintings and installations, in an exhibition at the Barefoot Gallery in Colombo. The paintings exhibit a fusion of the modern and traditional influences in society. They are both symbolic and ambiguous, and hence left to the interpretation and imagination of the viewer.
Speaking about the paintings, Gamage said, “The sun, moon, trees and people in my paintings are flat representations. Our traditions, norms and customs have been overtaken by modern technology and consumerism, resulting in everything being one dimensional and flat.”
