Mount Lavinia Hotel celebrated their jubilant win at the 14th Culinary Art Competition. Ajith Jayasekera won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze in four categories. Asela Hettiarachichi won two silver medals and two bronze medals in the Ice and Vegetable Carving category and also in the Artistic Showpiece and Pastry Showpiece category. The team also won awards in other categories such as Plated Desserts, Wedding Cake Structures and Apprentice Live Cooking. The Kitchen Brigade won 19 medals, Food and Beverage won six medals whilst International Hotel School grabbed eight medals. Mount Lavinia Hotel collectively won 33 medals at the event.
“This win was very important to us and it must not be forgotten that it is the people within a building that create a welcoming atmosphere and an event such as this, surfaces the culinary talent of the people. Recognition at these events, paves an optimistic path for dynamic careers in the future for these talented chefs. We are so proud and honoured to have won these awards and a lot of hard work, commitment from my team members were paid off,” said Anura Dewapura, General Manager of the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
