Chrissy’s Hair Design Studio/Academy received an Award of Excellence at the City and Guilds Awards Ceremony 2010. This recognition was received when a student of the Academy walked away with a Gold Medal in Advanced Diploma in Hair Dressing of City and Guilds, UK examination.
City and Guilds provides an international qualification enabling students to gain skilled employment in any country. A total of 49 medals of Excellence were awarded by City and Guilds to students across the world who excelled in their fields. Two medals were awarded for Hairdressing in Sri Lanka, of which, one was won by the student mentioned above.
With this award, Chrissy’s Acad- emy, established by beautician and hairdresser Chrissy Rozairo, proves that it possesses the capabilities, knowledge and expertise to provide its students a world-class educa- tion as well as its ability to produce professionals in the field.
Expressing her delight, Chrissy says that most of the other students who also completed the City and Guilds examination obtained Distinction passes.
About 15 students who have com- pleted their one-year course at the Academy received their certificates at the Academy Graduation. The theme of this year’s graduation was ‘Prom- ises of Love’.
Elaborating on the theme, Chrissy explains that students should under- stand and possess love for the profes- sion. Such an attitude is essential in the hairdressing industry, which is ex- tremely competitive. “If you don’t have love for what you do, it is very difficult. Young people need to understand it. You should have patience, care, hon- esty and sincerity, all of which come with love for your work. The skill will be mastered only with application and practice, whilst theory is a must in this profession, which was neglected in the past,” Chrissy says.
The Academy Graduation also featured a fashion show, displaying creations designed by the students themselves and choreographed by Rozanne Dias. 17 models graced the catwalk showcasing creative hair- styles. The fashion show also served as a platform for the students to showcase their talents and skills as well as what they learnt, during the year at the Academy.
