Mount Lavinia Hotel, amidst a busy and historic day when Sri Lanka took on England in the quarterfinals of the Cricket World Cup, engaged in turning off non-essential lights and other electrical appliances in support of Earth Hour, a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to raise awareness towards climate change.
“A terracotta lantern along with coconut torches will be left in all places of our property to symbolize hope and indeed to represent our support for a sustainable future,” stated Anura Dewapura, General Manager of Mount Lavinia Hotel. He also added, “last year hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support by turning off their lights for one hour and this year too we have joined in the celebration. We are happy to partake in this worldwide campaignwhere we turned off lights and joined together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.
Mount Lavinia Hotel observed Earth Hour last year too, when Sri Lanka was amongst the 128 countries that joined in the global display of solidarity towards this cause.
