A solo exhibition of paintings by S H Sarath will be held from 21 October to 23 October 2011 at the Lionel Wendt. Over 20 oil paintings done by painter S H Sarath, who has 40 years of experience to his credit, will be featured at the exhibition. The paintings will depict nature, beauty and women with several paintings illustrating the relations between Valliyamma and the peacock. Speaking about his works of art Sarath said, “I decided to feature the Valliyamma series in my exhibition this time as her story is a well known story in Sri Lankan culture. Her story in connection to God Skandha and the peacock has been portrayed in Sri Lankan abstract art for a while now.” The exhibition also features a series of paintings depicting Sri Lankan women and the importance of their role in shaping the future of the country. In addition to holding over 30 exhibitions in Sri Lanka Sarath has participated in group exhibitions both at home and abroad. He has held solo exhibitions in several countries including Germany, Thailand, Malaysia, Yugoslavia, Norway, Canada, Australia and Switzerland.
