Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) launched the country’s first fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services covering major markets, enhancing the broadband footprint in Sri Lanka. SLT ensures that residential, business, public sector, carriers and ISPs (internet service providers) in the country have access to 100 Mbps download speeds as the company announced its ‘Ultrafast Broadband’ service through FTTH technology.

SLT’s FTTH based broadband speed and HDTV channels on Peo TV were demonstrated to Lalith Weeratunga, Chairman – Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) and Anusha Palpita, Director General – TRCSL in the presence of Lalith De Silva, Group CEO – SLT and many other top officials. Lalith Weeratunga said, “I believe all these developments in the ICT industry will ultimately support Sri Lanka to become a knowledge hub. We congratulate and extend our best wishes to Sri Lanka Telecom on this ultra-fast broadband development in Sri Lanka.”

Lalith De Silva said, “SLT has today introduced FTTH technology, in response to increasing customer requirements that come along with the country’s economic and social development. SLT’s ultrafast fibre-based broadband proposition plans are in the pipeline to provide services with consistent and uninterrupted download and upload speeds and HD television to Sri Lankans.”

Ultra-fast FTTH broadband access also enables substantial productivity gains for SME enterprises and micro-level businesses across the country, giving them access to cloud computing and e-application benefits.
