Driving north from Jaffna town, we were directed towards the Western tip of the peninsula, when we inquired after the famed Casuarina beach. Several locals took time to describe the beach’s pleasing setting and character, further luring us to its shores. We paused when we reached the Ponnalai junction – we were leaving mainland Sri Lanka as we headed towards Casuarina.
