Taprobane Seafood Group (TSG), a seafood farming company focused on sustainability, won three top honour awards at the National Chamber of Exporters Awards 2018. TSG received the Fisheries Sector large category award and two special awards in recognition of its contribution to sustainable development in the Northern Province through the EGLR initiative (Employment Generation and Livelihood through Reconciliation) in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation. The special awards recognised the contribution of TSG in creating employment opportunities for the differently-abled in war-torn areas of the country. Initiated in 2012, with the assistance of the Disability Network of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), and was facilitated by the ILO’s Local Empowerment Development (LEED) project.
TSG was found in 2011 by Timothy O’ Reilly and Dilan Fernando with a shared vision of reaching the highest standards of sustainable seafood farming. Through their commitment to empower the community, TSG has always been in the forefront of ethical labour practices in the industry.
