The culinary team from the Vakarufalhi Island Resort in the Maldives, a member of the Mount Lavinia Hotel Group, received awards at the Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives (FHAM) 2017. The World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) supports and endorses FHAM’s International Culinary Challenge. The contest places a strong emphasis on the promotion of culinary excellence and is widely recognised as one of the region’s most prestigious competitions.
Chefs from the Vakarufalhi culinary team who were recognised were S C D P Gamini Weerasekara, D C D P Buddika Wijayarathna, Junior Sous Chef Chaminda Prabath Kumara and D C D P Indika Prasanna.
The annual competition is the key decisive platform on which hundreds of culinary experts come together to display their skills, and seek accreditation and feedback for improvement from a panel of judges of international acclaim. It is the only internationally-recognised platform for chefs in the Maldives endorsed by the Chefs Guild of Maldives and the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka.
“All eyes were focused on the competition,” said Riccardo Rizzoli, Executive Chef, Vakarufalhi Island Resort, commenting on the feat. “It has also become a meeting point for fellow gourmets to make new friends, share their experiences and marvel at the creative show pieces. We are proud of the accomplishment of our culinary team, which not only demonstrate their skills and talent but also the exquisite culinary experience we offer”.
