Philippe de Meyer, Managing Director of Vincent Sheppard, a Belgian company that produces novel design of furniture recently visited Sri Lanka to educate people on the concept of Lloyd Loom furniture. Invented by Marshall Burns Lloyd, nearly 100 years ago, by twisting and winding paper known as Kraft Paper around a fine steel wire, the Lloyd Loom Weave was utilised to create typical English furniture in an original manner.
Vincent Sheppard is the only company that produces contemporary Lloyd Loom furniture and the company has a history of 20 years. During the presentation Philippe de Meyer revealed, “Marshall Burns Lloyd was looking for a material to replace the natural cane or the natural Wickers that was very well know at that time. So he came up with the idea to replicate the cane at the time.” And this was the beginning of Lloyd Loom Weave. It is now available in Sri Lanka at Originals.
